Top view shows the tapered comb of the buttstock, that starts wide at the heel and gradually narrows to the wrist. At the heel the comb is covered by a brass extension of the buttplate, this comb extension is finished with multiple flats to echo the octagon theme of the barrel, held in place by a single screw. To the rear of the screw is a small brass patchbox release button; depress it to open the box below.

Separating the comb and wrist is a light line of raised carving, by moving up the wrist more carving can be found surrounding the straight tang of the breech plug. A brass oval inlay, sometimes called a "thumbpiece", has been set into the midpoint of the wrist.

The Green Mountain barrel is 36" length, 7/8" across the octagon flats. Finished a nice chocolate brown it is not signed or marked. A flat rear sight has been installed on the barrel 10" forward of the breech and is matched ahead by a brass front sight 2-1/2" behind the muzzle.
