Four friends travel to Hazard, KY for four days of riding the Appalachian Mountains and visiting the Kentucky coal mining region of Harland County. Photos are the product of Jim, Ron, Joe and Bill.

Bill-Haycock > Hazard, Kentucky. Known as the "Queen City of the Mountains," Hazard is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in Perry County and was founded in 1790 by Elijah Combs and his seven brothers. The county and county seat were later named for American naval hero Commodore Oliver-Hazard Perry, who was victorious over the British in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. Rich in natural resources, Hazard and Perry County's history is tied to the coal and lumber industries. Both industries, along with other significant historical events are highlighted in the town's own museum.

Bill-Haycock > Dooley's Diner in Booneville, KY was the most recommended place to eat lunch! If the "locals" eat there it must be good!

Bill-Haycock > Dooley's gave us the "best table in the house."

Bill-Haycock > We stopped in Corbin, KY to visit Col. Sander's first KFC - still an active KFC restaurant and museum.
