Bill-Haycock > Savannah, GA - River Street - Savannah River Bridge in the background.

Used some enhancing on the trees using "Photo shop Elements" - brought out the greens and yellows. Enhanced the blues in the water and sky. Selective "sharpening" on the ship and bridge structure.

f/14 @ 1/50 sec
Focal Length = 55mm
ISO = 100
White Balance = "sun"
Bill-Haycock > Savannah, GA - River Street - This was an attempt to silhouette the lantern and still have the colors in the leaves with back lite sun. The image was enhanced in Photo shop and then a "dry brush" filter was applied to provide the "poster" affect.

f/36 @ 1/25 sec
Focal Length = 55mm
ISO = 100
White Balance = "sun"
Bill-Haycock > Savannah, GA - The warehouse section of River Street. My interest in this image was the complexity of the facade and the colors during the late afternoon shooting. I used some dynamic sharpening in Photo Shop to bring out the bricks. The White balance selected for this shot was "shady" - this helped bring out the rich brick color in the late afternoon sun! A high "F stop" insured a good depth of field.

f/16 @ 1/30 sec
Focal Length = 49mm
ISO = 100
White Balance = "Shady" Provided a rich rendition of red!
Bill-Haycock > Savannah, GA - Warehouses on River Street.

The purpose for this late afternoon shot was to work on depth of field and color. The f/32 setting provided for great depth of field - the White Balance setting of "shady" warmed up the late afternoon sun even more to bring out the colors of the old brick.
I used some "whitening techniques in Photo Shop to keep the brilliant white in the wood - dynamic sharpening enhanced the bricks in the foreground.

f/32 @ 1/20 sec (for great depth of field)
Focal Length = 51mm
ISO = 100
White Balance = "Shade"
Bill-Haycock > Tybee Island, GA - The Tybee Island Light Station was a difficult shot for me as I wanted to have interest rather then just a snap shot of a light house! I did not have a long enough focal length lens to shoot from far back where I could have provided an interesting foreground of Sea Oats and sand dunes. The flags in this photo were flying on the road in front of the light house - I took a number of shots of the flags standing alone, then, using a very wide angle lens I shot from down low to get the full scene as well as the grass foreground. Using Photo Shop I selected the flags and moved them onto the main image. Using opacity controls I reduced opacity to provide the look I have here. I also enhanced shadows and brought out the green using Photo Shop tools.

f/10 @ 1/125 sec
Focal length = 18mm
ISO = 100
White Balance = "sun"
Bill-Haycock > Savannah River - Taken about 30 minutes after sunrise on the east side of the Savannah River. Savannah River Bridge is in the background. I used a large "F stop" to ensure good depth of field. White balance set to "shady" to increase the warmth and golden glow provided at this time of the morning. The photo was taken to practice using composition and color - the balloons provided the area of interest with the boat guiding one's eyes up from the boat! Half of the image is water - this provided the foreground I was looking for. F/36 ensured a great depth of field - the Savannah Bridge is in focus providing the vertical component to the image I was looking for. Photo Shop was used to deepen the blues and reds - especially the deeper blue of the water. A blue filter was used to provide the color I was looking for. A simple snapshot type photo but used to practice:

Color, contrast, composition (foreground, subject, background)

f/36 @ 0.4 sec
Focal Length = 47mm
ISO = 100
White Balance = "shade" (enhances warmth)
Bill-Haycock > Forsyth Fountain, Savannah, GA. Early evening photo shoot.

The early evening provide an opportunity to shoot at low light levels using long time delays for exposure. A Tungsten White Balance was used to bring out the natural color of the lights and statues. Fifteen seconds of shutter speed insured the water would look soft and "lacy." Long shutter speed also provided the light striations that gave the "star effect" to the light bulbs. I used a "screen" (blend) filter in Photo Shop to make the statues and fountain retain the "white" color - before using that filter the entire photo was golden - also used a hue/saturation filter to enhance the green and red in the foreground foliage.

f/11 @ 15 seconds
Focal length = 22mm
ISO = 100
White balance = "Tungsten"
Bill-Haycock > Forsyth Fountain, Savannah, GA

A "composition" challenge to use "foreground, subject, and background." The foreground was the small swan, subject is the boy with the horn and background is the far swan and lights going to the rear of the photo. Slow shutter speed again provided the "lacy" look to the water. I added some filter effects to brighten up the water and pond areas to balance the photo.

f/9 @ 10 seconds
Focal Length = 42mm
ISO = 100
White Balance = Tungsten
Bill-Haycock > The Charter House, River Street, Savannah,GA

The challenger here was to use proper F stops and shutter speeds to bring out the lighting and "striations" from the light poles.

I found the lights in the windows to be interesting - being able to "look in" the photo! F/16 provided the depth of filed and in turn required the longer time exposure to pick up the lights. ISO of 200 was a good balance between F stop and exposure length - ISO of 100 might have made the exposure too long! White balance of "tungsten" retained a good balance of colors.

My error in composition was cutting off the foreground! A focal length of perhaps 50mm would have allowed me to pick up the foreground street.

f/16 @ 25 seconds
Focal Length = 25mm
ISO = 200
White Balance = tungsten
